Klamath County has wrapped up its own part in bringing a Holiday Market to downtown Klamath Falls.

Transfer of ownership was finalized 10 a.m. Friday as the Klamath County board of commissioners signed the store over to North State Grocery Inc.

The Cottonwood, Calif. company first offered $1.9 million to purchase and open a Holiday Market store at 211 N. Eighth St. The county initially purchased the property from Value Rock Investments for $1.55 million.

North State Grocery, Inc. will now move forward with extensive remodeling plans, which begins with meeting an architect as soon as Monday, according to Klamath County Commissioner Donnie Boyd.

“The ball’s in their court,” Boyd told the Herald and News Friday afternoon. “They’re immediately going to have plans to remodel.”

Boyd said that the deal nets the county about $295,000 since they had to put about $55,000 into the store for improvements before transferring ownership. Several of these improvements were minor and done inside of the store.

Boyd said he was still pleased with the overall deal since the plan fits the community and brings a store back to an area that’s had none since the Haggen store closed in summer 2015.

“We didn’t go into it in order to make a profit,” Boyd said. “We went into it to put a grocery store downtown. That was our number one goal.”

Sky Lakes Medical Center will also work with North State Grocers and Holiday Market to reopen a pharmacy inside the store, according to Boyd.

The store could open as soon as April 2018.
