Klamath Commons, Klamath Falls’s newest park, will be opening with a ribbon-cutting event Monday, July 1 at 11 a.m. The event is open to all.

The park is located between ninth and 11th Streets and Klamath and Main Streets, near the north end of town.

The benches, spray park and restrooms will be ready to enjoy but the grass is still growing and will be protected with fencing.

The event is hosted by Sky Lakes Medical Center, which also funded the park.

Tom Hottman, spokesman for Sky Lakes, said the park will add a lot to the downtown area, and the “green spaces” are dedicated to the late Dr. Stephanie Van Dyke, who died in a sledding accident two years ago.

Van Dyke’s family members will be in attendance at the event.

Speakers will include Katherine Pope, a former local doctor who helped organize the Sky Lakes Wellness Center with Van Dyke, Sky Lakes CEO Paul Stewart and Chairman of Sky Lakes Board John Bell.

Suzzane Stewart will play the piano at the event near the gazebo.
