The Klamath County School District is taking a day to give back.

Sixteen of the district’s schools are honoring Thursday as Give Back Day, according to a news release. Schools will clean up campuses and nearby parks, along with city streets and downtown. Schools are also keying in on that day to raise funds, canned food and pet supplies for local organizations.

“Give Back Day is all about making your school and community a better place for everyone,” said Samantha Tipler, KCSD public relations representative. “Our schools have really stepped up and taken on projects important to them.”

Give Back Day was founded by the Klamath Falls City Schools in 2014, which celebrates the day in the spring. It’s now a thriving tradition in the city district.

Last spring, Blue Zones Project Klamath Falls expanded Give Back Day to more places in the community, including Shasta Elementary School. Many KCSD schools were unable to participate in the spring, so the district chose Thursday as a day to bring the program to the other schools.

“Give Back Day is a wonderful way to empower our youth to help build a stronger community and increase community pride,” said Rhiannon Kerr, Blue Zones Project Klamath Falls engagement lead. “We are proud to work with the Klamath County School District on this endeavor.”

Participating schools include: Lost River Jr./Sr. High School, Malin Elementary, Merrill Elementary, Keno Elementary, Ferguson Elementary, Peterson Elementary, Stearns Elementary, Brixner Junior High, Mazama High School, Bonanza School, Henley Elementary, Henley Middle School, Henley High School, Chiloquin Elementary, Chiloquin Jr./Sr. High School and Gilchrist School.
