Small Business Saturday was big hit in Downtown Klamath Falls, with many thanks going to the Klamath Falls Downtown Association.

Shop owners credited the association with heavily promoting the event and setting an example for the types of deals and promotions stores could offer.

“Downtown’s really pulling together,” said Katie Huck, co-owner of Periwinkle Consignment Boutique.

Businesses offered deals including storewide discounts, as well as games where discounts could be determined by spinning a wheel or selecting a bingo ball. Others, such as The Hanger owner Chelsea Brosterhous, offered free beanies to the first few customers starting Friday and said she found a line out the door when she opened.

The day was also dedicated to fundraising for Disable American Veterans with a chocolate walk featuring 25 participating businesses. The downtown association suggested holding the event Saturday to coincide with existing promotions.

In all, business owners downtown said they see Small Business Saturday growing into a larger event. As Mike Angeli, owner of The Ledge, put it, small businesses “are the life blood of the community.”
